Ishan Bhadra

Born in India, Ishan is a pianist and conductor with a strong focus on opera and orchestral repertoire. He recently completed his Master’s at the Royal Academy of Music, studying Piano Accompaniment with Michael Dussek and James Cheung, and conducting as a second study.

He continues his conducting training with Alice Farnham and has taken part in masterclasses with Neil Thomson and Colin Metters. His repertoire spans major works by composers including Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy, Ravel, and Tchaikovsky.

In opera, he recently served as Music Director for Die Zauberflöte (Opera Greenwich), and has worked as Assistant Conductor and repetiteur on Don Pasquale (Surrey Opera) and Turandot.

He has also conducted excerpts for Accademia Opera Italiana’s Young Artist Program. As a repetiteur and vocal coach, he has worked on a wide range of repertoire, including La bohème, Carmen, La traviata, Rigoletto, Die Walküre, Così fan tutte, and L’incoronazione di Poppea. He is proficient in Italian, German and French, with working knowledge of Russian and Czech.

Alongside his operatic work, Ishan has performed orchestral keyboard and worked as a ballet pianist at Sylvia Young Theatre School and Elmhurst Ballet School, and as a repetiteur with Birmingham Opera Company. He has received coaching from Malcolm Martineau and Susan Manoff, and was awarded second place in both the Andrew Downes and the Delius Prize, adjudicated by Mark Elder.

As a pianist and teacher, Ishan combines performance experience with a supportive, structured approach, helping students build strong skills, confidence and a lasting enjoyment of music.
